Wednesday 16th September 2009...
Up fairly early and out for a walk down to Fisherman's Wharf..it's touristy with the usual shops (pirate things, souvenirs etc) but great fun...we walked around a small museum full of the old "Penny Arcade" machines...ok it was 25c for most of them but was great to see some the very old amusements that our grandparents probably played with...Jon showed us how strong he was by going on the arm wrestling and other stuff, what a hunk...Carol & I put our money in the wurlitzer, which was fun...
We opted for a nice hour on a Red Line Harbour Cruise Boat which took us out to a very foggy Golden Gate Bridge, back round Alcatraz and into the Bay...we got great views of San Francisco, Marin County, herons diving for fish and in the distance a Harbour Seal bobbing up and down in the water...then off for a snack lunch at Boudins, famous for it's Sourdough bread bowls filled with clam chowder, the original and best...Jim and Jon had this, whilst Carol opted for a nice Bay Shrimp Sourdough Roll..delicious...then back to the hotel for a rest and get ready for a special celebration meal out at Gary Danko - probably the top restaurant in San Francisco...
We weren't disappointed...the food was fabulous and the service out of this world...we had 4 courses each, comprising an appetizer, fish course, meat course and dessert - or in Carol and Jon's case the cheeseboard...it was all wonderful and probably the best meal we've ever eaten out...and at the end there was a double surprise for Jonathan...a plate with "Congratulations" written in chocolate and a raspberry mousse dessert and a "Happy Birthday" with a selection of home made sweets and pastries..these were for his Graduation and 21st Birthday respectively...and Carol got a gift wrapped cake as a present too...
With full bellies we went back to the hotel, Jon to get an early night and Carol and Jim to have a glass of wine out on the Terrace and talk to some very nice Canadian guests from Halifax, Nova Scotia...
