Wednesday 9th September 2009...
Woke up in our massive suite and Carol & Jon go down to get the free breakfast which they bring back to eat at home. Real tea and a banana for Jim and we are ready for the day. Cloud cover so some relief from the sun. We drive in to market square and with pills working we make the 1.2 mile trek to Yavapai lookout along the south rim. The views are breathtaking so it takes us a while as there are so many views to captivate you. At the point we read about the history of the canyon, and surprise, Carol buys some souvenirs. It starts to rain so we jump on the free bus back to market square where we go to the cafe and have soup and hot-dogs (yummeee).
Back to the apartment for a rest, it is hard work having fun being a tourist. Carol writes postcards while the boys go to find a helicopter to fly around in over the canyon.
We decide on Maverick because they have the super-quiet Eco Star copters, and they are not wrong they are wicked. We wait around to get a copterfull and some Germans join us. This is another first for us and believe me it is sooooo exciting, a must for adventurous souls like us.
So 50 mins of soaring around the canyon getting a great running commentary from our pilot Ed and a whole heap of fabulous photos and video. Back at base we pose for a few photos and purchase the video that was taken from the cameras on the helicopter.
So like two excited schoolboys we race back to show everything to Carol and wash up for our evening meal excursion. This evening we decide on the 'Spaghetti Western' an Italian restaurant with a cowboy theme. The starters are a ridiculous size, Jon had the deep fried mushrooms and a ranch dip, all 36, yes 36 of them, he managed it but as you would expect it filled him up, poor love. So as it has been a hectic day we turn in early as we are off on the road again tomorrow.
I can't wait to see all the pics from the helicopter...
